Benjamin IV, known by the moniker "Nana Winston", is the creative force behind a unique blend of orchestral melodic death metal, exploring deeply introspective themes. Born and raised around Waco, Texas, Benjamin has spent over 30 years perfecting his craft, with all of his music being 110% self-produced. His work fuses heavy riffs with sweeping orchestral elements to explore darkness, redemption, and spiritual awakening.
Starting with Nana Winston's freshman release, Godless In Freefall (2021), a raw exploration of personal disillusionment, and Of Sorrow and Surrender (2024), a tribute to life’s trials and reconciliation, each album tells a personal story of growth and change. Nana Winston's third album, Whispers in the Waning Light (2025), delves into the moral decline of society, the fall of empires, and the eternal struggle between light and darkness, drawing from real-life reflection and growth. This latest release also includes a few guest appearances, adding a new layer to his expansive sound.
Nana Winston’s music is more than just metal—it’s a search for meaning, a journey of transformation and hope amidst chaos. The name "Nana Winston" itself represents rebellion and breaking boundaries, much like the music it represents.
Outside of music, Benjamin enjoys tequila, cigars, and quality time with his wife and three cats—Minnow, Ootah-Bahndha, and Newton. A laid-back soul and graphic designer by day, he embraces life’s journey, one moment at a time.
Legend has it that the name "Nana Winston" hails from a time when behaving meant evading a dreaded trip to the ominous "Nana Winston's House." A childhood tale, a nod to parental wittiness, this name now embodies the spirit of my musical rebellion—a reminder that from playful threats to powerful melodies, life's journey is a symphony meant to be embraced, one crescendo at a time.
